New Dayton

“Between Columbus and Cincinnati”. From the outside Dayton, Ohio is understandably seen as just another rustbelt city still trying to figure out its place in a post-industrial America. The mass exodus of top industries like General Motors and NCR left a significant part of its population without a job, let alone a choice to stay in the city. I won’t exhaust this subject for you. There is no shortage of reporting on the “fall” of middle-America and I feel it is now time to look forward to what could be made of our city.

Enter The New Dayton Podcast; the show that highlights business owners who not only operate in Dayton but have a vision for a path forward. The show has done an incredible job of representing a wide span of industries like food, photography, construction, life coaching, pottery, etc. Each interviewee shares a unique story, ethos, and vision for what they do and why they do. I recommend listening to the episodes featuring Brett from Press Coffee, Megan from St. Anne The Tart, and Chris from RealArt.

In addition to these incredible business owners, somehow OHUSA was picked to be featured in one of the episodes. Alongside Eden, my lovely wife and owner of Poppy Faye Floral, we share the story of starting our businesses. Woodworking and floristry are quite opposite industries but we find our common talking points on sustainability, customer experience, and local partnerships. Together we balance each other’s personalities, and I think that shows in the interview.

We recorded the episode inside of Ghostlight Midtown, their newest location that I had the incredible opportunity to help furnish. If you have a chance to visit, you will find their enormous walnut table and walnut benches that all came from a local tree!

The show was released on January 15, 2020, and is available wherever you choose to podcast. Here are quick links Spotify Apple Podcast
